Ken Woolley, Jr. set fast time in qualifying for the Carquest Tech-Net Spring Sizzler; First Bud Pole : Raceway Media

Stafford Springs, Conn. -- Ken Woolley, Jr., of Howell, N.J. set fast time in qualifying for the Carquest Tech-Net Spring Sizzler and captured the first Bud Pole Award of his career. Woolley, who has been a part time Featherlite Modified Series, NASCAR Touring competitor since 1986, drove the Richard Barney owned Atlantic Sprinkler Chevrolet around the ½ Stafford Motor Speedway in 18.175 seconds for an average speed of 99.037 mph.

Former series champion, Tony Hirschman of Northampton, Pa. was second fastest in the Kamco Supply Chevrolet with an average speed 98.630 mph. Ted Christopher of Plainville, Conn., the winner of the last series event at Stafford, was third fastest in the Mystique Motorsports Chevrolet at 98.501 mph. Eddie Flemke of Southington, Conn. and Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, N.Y. rounded out the Top-5 in qualifying.

The fastest eight qualifiers drew for their staring position for Sunday's 200-lap race. Woolley, Jr. picked the` number eight starting position. Joey Caracia, the eighth fastest qualifier, drew the number one starting position. He'll be joined by Ted Christopher on the front row. Hossfeld will start third and Hirschman will start fourth.

A total of 48 cars took time attempting to secure a spot in the 33-car Sizzler starting field. Defending series champion Mike Stefanik qualified 10th. Jerry Marquis, winner of the series opening race three weeks ago, needed a provisional starting position to make the field. He'll start 29th. Defending Sizzler champion John Blewett, III was ninth fastest in qualifying.
