Blaney Takes Attica Make-up Feature Win; Smith Retains Points Lead
ATTICA, OH (6-8-07) The O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions made a return visit to Attica Raceway Park to wrap up a race that was scheduled to be run in early April. Snow forced the cancellation the first time around, then rain shortened the first make-up date after the B-main had been run. Dale Blaney finally put an exclamation point on the Coors Light Spring Nationals by claiming his 55th All Star win by leading the make up feature from flag to flag.
"When we finish we're usually in the top five....we've just had some mechanical misfortunes. George Fisher sets this thing up and I know it's always going to be fast," said Blaney beside his Berlin Natural Bakery sponsored #2. "I was more concerned over who was behind me on those restarts at the end than I was about the tire sealing up. When you have Rob Chaney right on your bumper the way he's been running, you better be on your game."
Rob Chaney made a couple of late race charges at Blaney on the restarts but was unable to catch the experienced driver of the red #2 machine. Chaney has been a strong contender in recent weeks piloting the Hammer/Hunter #24h but had to settle for second ahead of Dean Jacobs, Greg Wilson, and Caleb Griffith.
Danny Smith maintains a 16 point lead over Greg Wilson in the $50,000 season championship points chase as the series makes another swing through Central PA starting at Port Royal Speedway on Thursday. From there it’s on to Williams Grove on Friday and Lincoln Speedway on Saturday. The PA Posse will be looking for revenge as the All Stars return to their territory. Bill Rose stole the victory the last time through at Bedford Speedway.
