Emerson Cayer Conquers Mini Stock Conquest

Winchester, NH -- A very humid evening produced hot racing action at Monadnock Speedway this past Saturday. The Mini Stocks competed in their extra distance race with Emerson Cayer taking the victory. Super Stock competitor Dana Shepard celebrated a very emotional first win in his racing career. Adam Gray won the side by side battle in the Late Models as Jeff Zuidema repeated in the Outlaw Pros. Young Anthony Frissora took the win for the Allison Legacy North Tour. John Yagmin and Alby Ovittt took the enduro checkers.

The Mini Stocks rolled on to the track for their special 35 lap conquest. Joe Rogers brought the field to the green and became the early leader. Beth Adams and Chris Hope followed in the top three. On lap five, the field was slowed for their first caution. On the restart, Roger continued to lead as Derek Bergquist moved into third. The following lap, the caution flag again flew for Neil Zilinski and Chris McTaggart. On lap ten, Rogers and Adams showed the way as Emerson Cayer and Kevin Ouellette battled for fourth. On lap sixteen, Cayer moved into the lead as Adams felt the pressure of Ouellette on her back bumper. On lap twenty, Ouellette made the pass for third reeling in second place runner, Joe Rogers. Ten laps to go, Rogers pulled to the infield leaving Brandon Warren in third. Five laps to go, a caution came out for Beth Adams setting the field up for a five lap shoot-out. On the restart, Ouellette put the pressure on Cayer for the lead but at the checkers, Ca
yer held him off for the win, Mike Metcalf made a late race pass to take third followed by Dennis Wallace and Chris McTaggart.

Super Stock Dana Shepard led the field to the green with Nick Auffrey on the outside pole. Shepard took the lead early as Leo Martin battled Auffrey for second. With ten laps in the book, Shepard continued to show the way as Brain Chapin and Mike Roy battled for fourth. Bill Johnston and Ken Springer awaited their opportunity to move into the top five. At half-way, Shepard held on strong as the battle continued behind him between Auffrey and Martin. Five laps to go, Johnston worked his way into the top five setting his sights on Chapin for fourth. At the green to checker finish, it was Dana Shepard leaping out of his car in victory lane giving his father, Charles, a huge hug celebrating their first win. Auffrey, Martin, Chapin and Johnston followed for top five. In a post race inspection, Martin was disqualified for a rules infraction.

Rookie Jason Lafluer held the pole for the Late Model event with Rookie Geoff Rollins on the outside. At the green, Lafleur was scored as the leader with John Meany taking over second. Ed Lofland and Matt Mead battled for third. On lap six, Mead moved up to the lead as Lafleur held off Meany for second. Adam Gray challenged Meany for third. The caution flag flew on lap eight for Nick Gasperini. On the restart, Mead controlled the field as Gray moved into second and Keith Carzello settled into third. On lap fifteen the top three of Mead, Gray and Carzello made a three way battle for the lead. Lafleur and Meany followed in the top five. Mead and Gray began running side by side for the lead with neither driver giving an inch, keeping the fans on their feet. On lap twenty, Gray attempted the outside but was denied as John Lavoie and Scott Zilinski put the pressure on Lafluer for fourth. On lap twenty three, a caution came out slowing the action. On the restart, Mead
held the lead as Carzello snuck by Gray for second. Zilinski moved into the fourth spot with Lavoie in fifth. By the next lap, Gray moved back into second bringing with him Zilinski for third. The top three battled for the lead with Gray coming to the top on lap twenty-eight and holding on to the checkered flag finish. Mead, Zilinski, Carzello and Lavoie followed for top five.

The Outlaw Pros took to the track with Fran Colson bringing the field to the green followed by Ron Smith and Scott Brooks. Colson quickly took the lead as Phil Meany took over third followed by Jeff Zuidema and Brooks. On lap nine, Zuidema took over the lead as Smith and Meany battled for third. On lap thirteen, the caution came out as Russ Hersey worked into the top three. On the restart, Zuidema held the lead as Hersey was on the back bumper of Colson for second. Bryon Baker moved into the top five. On lap seventeen, Hersey took over second leaving Colson in a challenge with Baker for third. The caution was displayed again on lap twenty as Brandon Ovitt made contact with Smith sending him hard into the front stretch wall. Smith was uninjured but his car sustained heavy damage. On the lap twenty-one restart, Zuidema again controlled the lead followed by Hersey, Baker, Meany and Gray. Zudiema began to check out as Gray made the pass on Meany for fourth. At the checker
s, it was Zuidema followed by Hersey, Baker, Gray and Meany.

This Saturday, Monadnock Speedway will welcome the return of the very fast open wheel winged touring series of the NEMA Midgets. This special event will also include the Super Stock Showdown along with the Outlaw Pros, Late Models, Mini Stocks and 4-cylinder Enduros. Race time is at 6pm.
