THOMPSON RELEASES 2006 RACING SCHEDULE
Russ Dowd Thompson International Speedway
THOMPSON, CT. Rugged New England race fans face another tough winter. But, the thoughts of the 2006 racing season makes the snow and ice a bit easier to deal with. In fact, the engines will come to life at Thompson International Speedway the weekend of April 8th and 9th when the track opens its gates for ICEBREAKER ’06. That kind of news is almost enough to melt the snow covered landscape around the historic Thompson, CT speedway.
The traditional opening of the New England racing season will be a two-day event and will feature the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour as the main attraction. Joining the Whelen Modified Tour will be the six Thompson NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series divisions that include the Sunoco Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Late Models, Limited Sportsman, Thompson Modifieds and Mini Stocks.
The 2006 Thompson racing schedule, which is available on the track’s web site, has twenty two separate racing events along with two scheduled test and tune sessions prior to the ICEBREAKER. The schedule goes right up to Don Hoenig’s Original all- automotive swap meet in November. The racing season begins with the ICEBREAKER and concludes with the famous World Series of Speedway Racing in October.
The Thursday Night Thompson Thunder series will start on June 1st and run through the end of September. However, there are many special events in the schedule. Included are a total of five visits from the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, a special NEXTEL CUP Driver’s night and PASS Pro Stock night, the traditional Eve of Destruction on Memorial Day weekend and the second annual Vintage Antique Racers Extravaganza in August.
A brand new addition is Modified Mania scheduled for the weekend of September 9th and 10th. Modified fans will get to see the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, the ROC Modifieds, the first-ever appearance at Thompson of the True Value Modified Tour, and the Sunoco Modifieds. It will be a weekend that will provide thrills and excitement for all open wheel modified fans.
