CHRISTOPHER COLLECTS SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON AT RIVERHEAD

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (June 4, 2005) Ted Christopher of Plainville, Conn. collected his second NASCAR Whelen Modified tour victory of the season in the Miller Lite 150 at Riverhead Raceway. Christopher passed Frank Vigliarolo of Mt. Sinai, N.Y. on lap 34 and led the rest of the event.
“The car was really great tonight, “said Christopher. “The track was in great shape and we were hoping to have a good night, and we did.”
It was the second career victory for Christopher at Riverhead and his 18th NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win overall. He now leads the series point standings unofficially by 54 points over Zach Sylvester. By leading the most laps Christopher also earned the Tom Baldwin Memorial Award
Eric Beers pressured Christopher’s Mystique Motorsports Chevrolet during the final two thirds of the race, finishing second in the Roby’s Propane/ Reynolds Auto Chevrolet. Beers set fast time to win the Bud Pole Award missing the track record by 11/1000th of a second.
Donny Lia, winner of the last Tour race at Riverhead, was third in the Huntington Honda Chevrolet. Defending race winner Jerry Marquis was fourth in the Reynolds Auto Wrecking Dodge. Former Champion Mike Stefanik rounded out the Top-5 in the G. Lopes Construction Chevrolet.
The Top 10 qualifiers drew for starting position. Vigliarolo drew the pole and Jimmy Blewett picked the number two starting position. Christopher began the race in third.
Vigliarolo led from the opening green. Christopher moved into second on lap 1 and pressured Vigliarolo. Following a restart on lap 32, Christopher was able to motor around Vigliarolo. Beers moved to second on lap 48 and Lia took over 3rd on lap 62.
The next event for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is the New England Dodge Dealers Twin 100’s at Thompson International Speedway in Thompson, Conn. on June 12.
