WILMINGTON, VT. — After a thrilling season opener at Maine’s Shawnee Peak on Dec. 4-5, teams from around the northeast will converge on the Haystack at Mount Snow ski area this weekend, Dec. 18-19, for round two of the 2004-05 Rock Maple Racing snocross schedule.

Woody’s traction and control products will present two full days of exciting racing, with qualifying races on Saturday and a full slate of finals on Sunday. Gates will open at 8 a.m., and racing will get underway at 9 a.m. Tickets are $10 per adult, per day, and children under the age of 10 will be admitted free.

Haystack Mountain is the oldest host venue on the Rock Maple Racing schedule. Since 1992, the popular southern Vermont ski area has been the backdrop for many snocross events - each one successful thanks to excellent track conditions and a well-suited facility.

Back before the World Snowmobile Association (WSA) was created, Haystack was the site of national snocross events. Some of today’s big stars, including Blair Morgan, have raced there in previous years. When the old MRP circuit used to make an eastern swing, Haystack played host to some the best racers from the Midwest and beyond.

Leading the charge into Haystack will be Matt Boron, fresh off a clean sweep of the Pro classes at Shawnee Peak. Defending Pro champions Danny Poirier and Simon Belzile will be gunning for their first wins of the new season, while newcomers Aaron Christiansen and Mike Schultz will look to put Polaris atop the podium in southern Vermont.

And don’t forget the strong rookie contingent within the Pro ranks this year. Former Semi Pro stand-outs Ryan Scripture, Shawn Nutt, Tyler Webster and Brian Whalley all know how to get around Haystack and could contend for victory this weekend. The depth of talent at the top has gotten a whole lot bigger this year, and it makes for excellent competition.

Turning heads at Shawnee Peak was Xtreme Racing’s hot new Semi Pro rider, Tyler Sedlmeier. The Orchard, Park, NY native won a pair of finals in the opener on his XP-S/Advance Auto Parts Ski-doo in convincing fashion, asserting himself over the rest as the man to beat this season. Cullen Howe, a Vermont native, claimed the Semi Pro Open final at Shawnee Peak and will look to repeat in his home state this weekend.
