Bill Sawyer Wraps Up Airborne NAPA Sportsman Title Airborne International Raceway

Plattsburgh, NY - - As Airborne Raceway concluded its 50th anniversary season Sunday, NAPA Sportsman Bill Sawyer, 60, of Milton, VT became the oldest champion in track history. Sawyer clinched his first title with a 9th place finish in the Leo’s Furniture 30-lap trophy dash. It was Sawyer’s ninth top-10 finish in 13 starts. Robin Wood of Plattsburgh secured runner-up honors with a 5th place finish.
The season finale was won by Toby Ebersole of Peru. Ebersole raced in tight formation with Scott Payea, Doug Murphy, Skip Liberty and Wood over the final fifteen laps and stayed mistake-free to take his second checkered flag of the year. Bucko Branham, Joe Steffen, Mark Barnier, Sawyer and John Hayes held positions 6-10.
Richie Turner, 17 of Fairfax, VT became the youngest Renegade champion ever at Airborne after placing third in the Renegade main event. Turner out pointed Rich Agoney of Peru 1027-975. Tylor Terry of Morrisonville raced around the outside of Agoney for the win on the white flag lap. Ed Doner of Plattsburgh won for the fourth time to become the 2004 Airborne Junkyard Warrior champion. Chris Haselman and Matt Richardson were next in line.
