Pro Stocks Return To Twin State Speedway Twin State Speedway
Claremont, NH - The First Annual Mike Brousseau Memorial 125 at Twin State Speedway is only picking up steam as the Sunday September 5th race day draws nearer. The addition of a primary sponsor in Asetex Tire & Auto means that the event now has a new name in addition to its first time format. The Asetex Tire & Auto Mike Brousseau Memorial 125 is headlined by a 125-lap, $3000 to win Pro Stock Open Race with additional features for Super Stocks, Late Models, and Wildcats.
The Pro Stock Open will be run differently than anything Twin State has seen before. The 125 lap race will consist of two 50-lap green flag segments followed by a 25 lap dash for cash. In between segments, teams will have a pre-determined amount of time to adjust their cars. The popular Monza style scoring will also be in effect. For those who are unfamiliar with the technique, it is relatively simple to understand. Each car will get one point according to its finishing position. First place receives one point, third place receives three points, and so on. The driver with the lowest point total at the end of the three segments is the overall winner. This procedure is important to understand since the winner of the final segment may very well not be the overall winner of the race.
Many drivers, including crowd favorites Punky Caron, Rob Goodenough, Barry Gray, Zig Geno, and others have already signed up for the prestigious event. Russ Hersey and Bob Labine are the only two drivers with a guaranteed starting spot by virtue of their feature wins at neighboring tracks. All interested Pro Stock teams were invited to practice at the facility for multiple weeks prior to the event, giving everyone a fair shot at setting up their cars for maximum speed and handling capabilities. A full field of 25 cars is expected to vie for the $3000 top spot, with $200 guaranteed to every starter.
The day's events will begin with social time from 10-2 while Merrill's Karaoke provides music throughout the festivities. Multiple cars will be on display during this time, with drivers on hand for autographs and pictures. The Blazen Grill BBQ commences at noon with chicken, corn on the cob, sides and desserts for only $10. Pit Gates are set to open at 1:00 with the grandstands following at 2:00. Practice will run from 2:30-5:00 with additional time for set-up and pit meetings. Racing begins at 6pm sharp with Pro Stock and Super Stock heats followed by any necessary consolation races.
The Wildcat feature will roll off first with a little extra incentive to reach victory lane. On this special night, the top three finishers will receive 6-foot tall trophies instead of the standard size they race for weekly. For a division that competes for trophies only, this is a big deal! The first of three Pro Stock segments will follow with driver introductions and on-track activities preceding the call to start their engines. The Super Stocks take to the oval next with what is expected to be varied field. With home track rules in place and $500 going to the winner, expect a furious 50 lap shootout.
The second Pro Stock 50 lap sprint will roll off after the Supers, followed by Twin State's Nascar Division, the Late Models. This race is a bonus for the Lates, however, and will not count towards their regional point standings. The jam-packed night of racing will conclude with the 25 lap Pro Stock dash. Victory Lane will be held immediately following the determination of the overall winner.
Track owner Dennis Fluery wanted not only to honor Brousseau, a 22 year competitor at the former Claremont Speedway, but also to highlight his commitment to racing as a family sport. Brousseau not only fielded his own race team, but supported his fellow drivers through sponsorships as well. He began racing in the Street Stock division and eventually moved up to the Pro Stocks and Modifieds, all the while trying to work with the speedway to improve the racing experience for the fans.
Proceeds from the night's events will go to the Brousseau Children scholarship fund at Claremont Savings Bank. An on-track presentation of these funds to the Brousseau family will follow on Friday, September 10, championship night.
The rain date for this event is Monday, September 6. Grandstand admission prices are $15 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-17 with an adult, and no charge for kids under 4. Pit fees are $30 for everyone. Lap sponsor packages are still available and can be purchased for $100.00 per lap.
