Ryan Moore Gets a Taste of Bad Luck
Watkins Glen International

Watkins Glen, NY – Young Ryan Moore had his hopes set high for his debut at Watkins Glen International Speedway. “I was really anxious to get out on a road course for the first time,” said Moore. The Rookie adapted to the track well throughout the practice session. He dedicated the first half of practice to learning the track and getting a feel for the challenging turns, and the second half gaining himself some courage and some speed. For such a challenging track, young Moore proved too many that his driving skills went far beyond just oval track racing.

The qualifying session on Friday afternoon was unfamiliar to the Grand National Division, Busch North Series. Drivers would compete for the fastest time on the track in groups of five. Moore impressed many, by placing his R.C. Moore/Bill Dodge Chevrolet in the fourth starting spot for the Mohegan Sun 150.

At the wave of the green, Moore took the third spot, where he rode until misfortune occurred early. While racing up through the infamous “S-Turns” the young Rookie had a rear end suspension bar break sending his car out of control, forcing him into the wall. “It was by far the hardest hit I have ever experienced,” said Ryan. Moore was taken to the infield care center for precautionary reasons, but only suffered minor bruises. Moore was anxious to get back to his pit to help the Moore Racing Team make the necessary repairs to get the car back out. “The team did a really great job of getting me back out there as soon as they could. They all worked together to prevent us from being completely out of the race,” said Ryan.

Moore made his way out on the track, but unfortunately had fallen 23 laps down. He was determined to finish his first race at “The Glen” and did so when the race was called due to rain on lap 41. The race fell twenty-one laps short from the scheduled 125 miles. Moore fell back to fifth in the point standings, only two points out of fourth. Moore already has his mind set on next week’s race at Adirondack International Speedway where he will continue both his quest for Rookie of the Year and Busch North Series championship titles.
