North East, PA - Michael Waltrip made it two-in-a-row tonight in front of over 7,300 fans, the biggest crowd of Lake Erie Speedway’s 2 year career. Waltrip won the 2nd annual Race of Champions by mere inches over Dave Blaney. Waltrip and Blaney raced against fellow Winston Cup stars Greg Biffle and Kevin Harvick for a 20-lap shootout. The drivers jumped into the cars of local Lake Erie Speedway drivers Glenn Gault, Jr., Greg Hoover, Dale Francis, and Michael Nowak. Waltrip battled hard for the lead for the first half of the race, but tangled with Harvick and spun coming out of turn four on lap 7. Waltrip ended up in third position for the first half while Harvick drove across the checkered in first. The field was then inverted, starting Waltrip in second and Harvick in last. Dave Blaney started in second for the second half of the shootout, allowing him to battle Waltrip for the lead. Blaney ducked to the inside of Waltrip with only three laps to go, but was unable to pull in front of him. Blaney tried again on the last lap, losing to Waltrip by inches. Harvick finished in third while Biffle crossing the finish line in fourth.

Chris Bailey, Jr. was once again bumped out of Victory Circle in the Quality Markets Bandolero division. Eric Redmond, in the #F18, was the driver doing the winning tonight, beating #31 Bryanne Downes to the stripe by mere feet in a thrilling victory. Bailey was involved in an incident with the #98 of Grant Kirik coming out of turn one with two laps remaining, and finished out of the top three for the first time all season, coming home seventh. Kirik fared better after the incident, going on to finish fourth.

The Health America Legends feature was taken by James Rader once again, his twelfth victory of the year. Rader started third in the feature, and took advantage of an early caution, jumping to the lead only two laps into the race. The #23 of Tom Hall was the man trying to challenge Rader all race long. Hall tried to jump the gun on Rader after a late race caution with six laps to go, when disaster struck. With four laps to go, and in contention for his first feature win of the year, Hall suffered from those mysterious "mechanical issues," and dropped out of contention. Rader then cruised to yet another victory, with Rodney Harrower's #66 coming home in second.

Third place was the place to start in the Texas Brand Sauce Street Stock feature. Bryant Burns, #67, came home a winner again Saturday night. It was also his third win of the season. Eric Hadley's #71 was Burns' main opponent during the feature. He tried his best to get around Burns and take the lead, but was unable to do so and finished second.

David Krawcyzk, driver of the #11k, dominated tonight's Plyler Overhead Door Outlaws feature. Krawcyzk beat out the #67 of Don Atwell to take home his fourth win of the season. Atwell started in the fifth position, but by lap 14 was pressuring the #23 of Mike Reed, who was currently running in second. Reed held off Atwell until lap 19. After taking over the second position, Atwell worked his way toward leader Krawcyzk, but was unable to take the lead.

The Jensen's Target Collision Figure 8 feature capped off a great night of racing at Lake Erie Speedway. The #8 of Mike Kernohan was the dominant car all race long. Nobody could get close to passing him until there was only one lap to go. Even then, it wasn't another driver who passed Kernohan for the win, his own car failed him thanks to those mysterious "mechanical issues," and he went from winning the feature to finishing fourth. The #66 of Bob Morgan was more than happy to take full advantage of Kernohan's problems, gaining his first feature victory of the year. The #47 of Larry Wolfe battled hard all race long, starting in dead last and coming home in second place.

Next weekend at Lake Erie Speedway is going to be packed with fun-filled family entertainment. Friday night is Rocket 101 Fan Appreciation night at the races, sponsored by the American Heart Association. Purchase a general admission ticket and get a general admission ticket for $1.01. The Budweiser Late Models will be running special Twin 25 Lap features, along with the rest of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, and the Allison Legacy Series. Saturday night is Zap A Snack/Kids Club Night at the Races sponsored by Paragon Print Systems. The band Freudian Slip will be performing in the “Pre-Race Party Zone” from 6:00 – 7:30. The Jensen's Target Collision Figure 8's will be running a special 20 lap feature, along with the rest of Lake Erie Speedway's Saturday night divisions.
